Wedding at Mas d'Oriane in Laragne: Marjorie and Mathieu in the Hautes-Alpes

A wedding in the Hautes-Alpes, at Mas d'Oriane
Marjorie and Mathieu celebrated their wedding at Mas d'Oriane, surrounded by family and friends who'd traveled from France and Réunion Island, quite a mix for a wedding in a fairly quiet corner of the Hautes-Alpes.
The Fol'Artmonie team handled the florals, delicate arrangements throughout the venue that held up well against the mountain backdrop.

Preparations: Lolette dress and Atelier Belleza beauty
The bride, radiant in a unique creation by Lucie Charoy for her label Lolette, was the center of attention. Atelier Belleza enhanced her beauty with elegant hair and makeup.

Mas d'Oriane: getting married in the Hautes-Alpes
Laragne-Montéglin sits in the Buëch valley, twenty minutes from Sisteron and forty-five from Gap. Allow an hour and a half from Aix-en-Provence. Couples often find this area almost by accident, while looking for somewhere less busy than the Luberon, and leave convinced.
Photographing here is not the same as photographing lower down in Provence. At close to six hundred metres, the air is drier and the light more direct, without the heat haze that softens backgrounds in the Rhône valley. Colours come out more saturated and the Dévoluy mountains hold the background effortlessly. In exchange, the midday sun is harsher and the shadows harder: the shade of a tree becomes your best ally for family portraits.
The other particularity is the evening. Even in July, the temperature drops sharply once the sun goes behind the ridges. Warn your guests, plan for shawls, and keep an option to move the end of the night indoors.

Frequently asked questions
Where is Mas d'Oriane?
In Laragne-Montéglin, in the Hautes-Alpes, twenty minutes from Sisteron, forty-five from Gap and an hour and a half from Aix-en-Provence.
What does getting married in the Hautes-Alpes change, compared with Provence?
Cleaner light, mountains in the background, and far less competition for summer dates. In return you need to plan for the cool evenings and for guest travel.
When is the best season?
June to September. June and September give the most comfortable temperatures and the softest late-day light.
Is there anything specific to plan for guests?
Some shade during the cocktail hour, and something warm for the evening. Accommodation is more scattered than in Provence, so a shuttle quickly becomes essential.
